How To Become A (Financial) Blogger

Maybe what I should have titles this is “How I Became A Financial Blogger”. This is my story, or at least a part of it. This is how I became the giant of financial blogging and binary options trading you see before you today. It took a lot of hard work, a lot of time, a lot of patience but I did it and so can you if that is what you want to do. For the purposes of this article I am going to assume that you already know enough about your subject to get started right away but not to worry, if you don’t you will.  It doesn’t matter so much if you are an expert in your chosen subject as it is does that you become one.

My story starts back in the time I will call “Before 2005″. In this time period of my life I was a cook, a chef and restaurant manager. I was not a trader and I was only a little bit a writer. I had written and had been writing short pieces about food and cooking for a friends magazine, the local paper and random newsletters but nothing serious and nothing that paid for more than a lunch here and there. Then, on October 5th, 2005 I was introduced to trading and my entire life changed.  That was the day I took the 3 Step Method For Buying Stocks seminar. I was enthralled with the subject and spent the next three years learning all I could about the subject of trading. I also lost a lot of money trading, and my passion to be a restaurant employee.

Sometime around 2010, I don’t remember exactly right now, I found myself between jobs. While looking for the next restaurant gig I took my friends suggestion and joined ODesk. ODesk is an online marketplace for freelance jobs and job seekers. There are jobs for all kinds of work, not just writing but that is what I was there for. I started out trying to find gigs writing about food. You want to know what I found out? Everybody wants to be a food writer and the jobs don’t pay jack. At that point I hustled to write anything I could get $20 a page for to just to help make ends meet. Along the way I got better at writing and even made a few contacts that have lasted until today.

Learn To Blog With HubPages

About the same time I got started with ODesk I also found HubPages. HubPages is a blog site that allows anyone to sign up and create blog post they call hubs. The site is great because you can write about anything you want and even monetize your account through Adsense, Ebay and Amazon. The really great thing is that HubPages is a fantastic learning tool for bloggers, especially if you sign up for their Apprenticeship Program. Qualified apprentices get paid up front for their work and also make residuals. So, while I was getting better at writing I was also learning how to blog, a powerful combination.

One of the contacts I made through ODesk was Martin Kay and  I had begun to venture into financial writing and stock analysis when I answered his ad. After an interview period I was soon hired on to write my weekly column “Tips From The Geek”.  It was a match made in heaven. BOTS really liked Michael Hodges and Michael Hodges really likes BOTS which is why I am still there today and my role has expanded to the point I am now one of the top writers as well as a forum moderator.

The part I really like about this story is when I started my own blogs. I had gotten better at writing with Hubpages, ODesk and BOTS. I had learned a lot about blogging and SEO through all three as well. My interest in trading and binary options was not quenched with my work at BOTS or through the articles I was writing on Hubpages so I started by own blog, the very one you are reading today. Originally hosted on Google Blogger you can still find the original blog there but all of my new stuff will be posted here.

Like I said, it will take time and some hard work, a little dedication and some focus but you will be able to do it. You don’t have to be a financial writer or aspire to be one either. This technique will work for anyone who wants to be a writer, or a blogger, or to capture the power of word and the internet to make a living.
